Create Keyboard Shortcuts to your favourite Programs

Using a keyboard short cut makes it easier to launch your favourite programs without having to look on the desktop, or navigate the start menu. In this guide we’ll create a keyboard short cut to launch Microsoft Word.

Assuming you’ve just  installed Microsoft Word, so now we’ll create a short cut on the desktop to it. If you’ve already got a short cut to Microsoft Word on your desktop, you can skip steps 1 and 2.

  1. From the Start menu select all programmes, and then Microsoft office.
  2. Highlight Microsoft Word, and then press the context key, followed by N (send to) and then D (desktop)
  3. Press the Windows Key+D to navigate to the desktop.
  4. Press M, until Microsoft Word is Selected.
  5. Press the Context Key, followed by R for properties. The short cut properties dialogue box will be displayed, and the cursor will be in the Start In field, Press TAB once to move into the Short Cut Key Field.
  6. All program short cuts start with CTRL+ALT, so press W to assign Microsoft word, the keyboard short cut of CTRL+ALT+W, and press ENTER.
  7. That’s it, no matter where you are in windows, pressing CTRL+ALT+W will always start Microsoft Word.
