MouseKeys, Using the Keyboard to control the mouse.

Mouse Keys allows you to control the mouse pointer, and carryout actions such as double clicking and drag and drop using the Keyboard. If you use a screen magnifier, mouse keys will allow you to move smoothly around the screen, rather than the unpleasant jerky movements often experienced when using the mouse with the screen magnified.

Switching Mouse Keys On

  1. Press LEFT ALT+LEFT SHIFT+NUM LOCK
  2. A Message asking you to confirm you wish to switch Mouse Keys on will be displayed. Press ENTER to confirm.

Using Mouse Keys

Mouse keys assigns the following operations to the Numeric Keypad

Direction Keys

  • 8 – Up
  • 2 – Down
  • 4 – Left
  • 6 – Right
  • 7 – Diagonal Up Left
  • 9 – Diagonal Up Right
  • 1 – Diagonal Down Left
  • 3 – Diagonal Dorn Right

Mouse Buttons

  • / – Left Mouse Button
  • * – Both Buttons
  • - - Right Mouse Button

Operations

  • 5 – Single Click
  • + – Double Click
  • Ins -Hold down left mouse button (drag)
  • Del – Release (drag off)
  • CTRL +Direction Key – increases the speed of the mouse pointer
  • SHIFT+Direction Key – Slows down the speed of the mouse pointer.
  • To double click with the left mouse button – press / then +
  • To single click with the left mouse button – press / then 5
  • To double click with the right mouse button – press – then +
  • To single click with the left mouse button – press – then 5
  • To double click with both buttons – press * then +
  • To single click with both buttons - press / then 5

Dragging and Dropping

  1. Use the direction keys to move the mouse pointer over the object you wish to drag
  2. Press the Ins key, and then use direction keys to move the object.
  3. Press Del, to release the object.

Selecting and Moving Text

  1. Use the direction keys to position mouse pointer at the start of the text you wish to move.
  2. Press Ins, and then use the direction keys to select the text.
  3. Press Del, to release the left mouse button.
  4. Press Ins, to hold down the left mouse button, then use the direction keys to move the mouse pointer to the new location for the text.
  5. Press Del, to release the left mouse button, the text will now be moved.

Temporarily Switching Mouse Keys Off and On

To temporarily switch mouse keys off, press the Num Lock key, your computer will emit a low tone to indicate mouse keys are swtiched off. Pressing the num lock again, will switch mouse keys back on, your computer will emit a high tone.

Switching Mouse Keys of Permanently

Press LEFT ALT+LEFT SHIFT+NUM LOCK
