Vets out of hours services

This is Charlie, he’s a cheeky 10 year old West Highland White Terrier. This is our experience with our vets out of hours service.

Charlie became ill one Sunday in September, he was in pain and didn’t want to get out of his basket. So a trip to the emergency vet was called for. We rang our usual vet, but as it was out of hours we had to take him to an emergency out of hours service 15 Miles away. As this surgery is only open for out of hours treatment we then had to pick him up before 8am the next morning, and bring him back to our local vets. Fortunately we had the car so were able to do this. Having two vets involved also made the insurance claim more complicated that it needed to be.

Fortunately after a week of medication Charlie has now made a full recovery. The standard of care from both Vets was excellent. But this outsourcing of out of hours services is now quite common, so check what the out of hours arrangements are with your vets.
