Preventing submenus from opening automatically on the Start Menu

Do you find it annoying how Windows automatically opens a submenu if you linger a little too long with your mouse in the Start Menu.  Here’s how to switch this off.

  1. In the Start Menu search box type “customize the start menu” and press ENTER.  The Task Bar and Start Menu properties dialogue box will be displayed.
  2. Press C to open the the Customize Start Menu options
  3. Press O to select “Open submenus when I pause on them with the mouse pointer
  4. Press SPACE to untick the“Open submenus when I pause on them with the mouse pointer” option
  5. Press ENTER to return to the Taskbar and Start Menu Properties dialogue box
  6. Press A to apply your changes, then ESCAPE to close the dialogue box.
