Stop Windows Live Messenger from starting automatically

Windows Live Messenger normally starts automatically when you first start Windows 7,  if you don’t wish to use Live Messenger you can disable it.  One of the benefits of disabling Messenger is that it can speed up your Windows boot time.

  1. In the start menu search box type “Windows Live Messenger” and press ENTER, Live Messenger will now load.
  2. Press the ALT+T to open the Tools Menu and O to choose options
  3. The Options Dialogue Box will now be displayed.
  4. Press SHIFT+TAB to select the Tab List.  The Personal Tab will be selected.
  5. Press S, or use the Up and Down arrows to choose Sign In
  6. Press ALT+M to deselect “Start Messenger when I log on to my computer
  7. Press ENTER, to accept these settings
  8. Press ALT+F X to exit Messenger
  9. Now restart your computer
